After being drawn in to the magical world Meyer had created in her first book, Cinder, (the review for which can be found here) I was looking forward to reading the next instalment, and boy was it a surprise. In the best of ways of course (:

Meyer seems to have the Midas’s magical touch – whereby any fairy tale she touches, turns to gold. This was no exception, as in this new adventure, we’re drawn in to the tale of Red Riding Hood, with the ever present addition of the “Wolf.” We continue the story on from Cinder, but here we meet Scarlet. Just as kick ass as Cinder, just as cool, and just as likeable. We follow her on the quest to rescue her grandmother and weave in and out through the detailed and ingenious plot that Meyer creates.

I’m not the biggest fan of fantasy or alternate universe stories, but Meyer can’t help but draw you in with her writing, that’s balanced throughout the book. She doesn’t just throw in a twist and turn here and there to make it interesting, no, she actually slowly weaves it in so the pieces fall in to place in due time. I like that, I like that very much.

A great concoction of new characters, with a touch of flair that I’m coming to expect from Meyer’s storytelling, made this an enjoyable read, and my goodness, I can’t wait for the next 2 books in the instalment, which this time will feature Rapunzel and Snow White. So keep an eye out for the new ones guys!
